Will fj cruiser become a classic?

If you like the idea of an FJ Cruiser and can handle those high prices, Hagerty has some wise buying tips to help you get a good one. All of this makes it an outstanding capsule from a clearly bygone era, but not so distant, and, potentially, an icon of the future collector, just as the Land Cruiser FJ40 was before. It combined a powerful 4Runner chassis and a rugged 4.0-liter V6 engine with touches of vintage FJ Land Cruiser style, such as the wraparound rear windows, the front grille and the contrasting roof color. Five FJ Cruisers have appeared on the pages of the Bring a Trailer collector car auction site this year, each almost in its original condition.

The growing attention to the most modern Land Cruiser models bodes well for the truly modern FJ Cruiser. The FJ Cruiser was something like a Goldilocks car, a perfect compromise between the daily habitability of a crossover and the unquestionable utility of a larger, more powerful SUV. The FJ Cruiser 'Final Edition' will come in a single-tone beige exterior, upholstery and details on the central panel. Toyota's FJ Cruiser, an SUV with a retro-style body on chassis designed to act as a tribute and successor to the first Land Cruiser line, was not an immediate participant in the automotive canon.

The FJ Cruiser was one of the few occasions in Toyota's history where fun was an integral part of the design process. As a reference to the 70 Series Land Cruiser, there are three calibers prominent on the dashboard: a compass, a thermometer and an inclinometer. Under the obvious nods to the FJ40 (the square shape, the white roof, the wraparound rear windows and the narrow “TOYOTA” grille flanked by round headlights), the FJ Cruiser is a true all-rounder. Classic car auctions went from selling two or three FJ Cruisers a year to selling more than two per month.

With the Bronco seemingly poised for an inevitable streak of success with a very similar formula, the value of a pristine FJ Cruiser can only increase from here. However, even as sales of the new FJ Cruisers declined, the values of the trucks he paid homage to skyrocketed. The FJ Cruiser was a fierce all-rounder that competed head-on with the Jeep Wrangler, as well as with models such as the Nissan Xterra and even Toyota's own 4Runner. The FJ Cruiser has all the characteristics of a certain type of classic of the future, one that did not leave a significant cultural impact at the time, but rather uniquely embodied the best parts of an entire automotive era and achieved moderate enough success that well-maintained editions are still available.
